| Can't say i have... what's it about? Our english teacher is reading us the book Of Mice and Men, and it was really cool! Even though i didn't know what most of the words mean, and some of them meant different things when used in different places. :S confusing, but good book. It's an american writer.. something Steinbeck. | |

| Well i was at my friend's place and she had to read it for english so i read the first chapter and it was okay.. it's a classic though right? i didn't find it very gripping. Then again, i didn't find the first chapter of Harry Potter very gripping.. then it gets better! xD | |

It *is* a classic, ae??? It also has a controversy. It's in Wikipedia here:

| Eh, I think it was that there were people who thought it was too extreme, and that there were some people who started having really radical thoughts. (Some making their own deathnotes, etc.) And, yes, To Kill a Mockingbird is really controversial. It really talks about the racial barrier, and how bad it is for the community. But, it is a great book!! | |

| Wow...And apparently, Bridge to Terabithia [sp?] had been banned in some countries as well.
In my old class, we read a book which is about banning Huckleberry Finn in the school library...I forgot the title...but I'll edit this post as soon as I can find out!

| Yeah, some people would make their own death notes and write in the name of the people that they don't like. And they would take that as bullying. I saw the movie.. well part of it. Why is it banned? | |

| Often, these books address matters that teachers or parents dont want their kids exposed to. Cursing is often why books get banned. But also, things that are seen as taboo are also banned. Harry potter was banned in many places because it is seen as against the catholic church. The same with the golden compass. Many books and movies are banned or put with a higher age limit (13 and up, rated R, etc.) when addressing homosexuality. | |

| According to this site http://www.moria.co.nz/fantasy/bridgetoterabithia.htm i found: "...US parental groups have tried to ban, for reasons that have been cited as the death of a main character, promoting Satanic values and having a character who denounces Christianity."
I love the Golden Compass! Although here we call it Northern Lights (which in my opinion is a much awesomer name)! I read it three times and it was sooo awesome every time! But the ending is
- Spoiler:
reaallllyy bad. one of the worst endings i've ever read in a series of books. But it had to be like that... so heart wrenching!!

| I've never read it. @.@ I always tell myself that I want to... but I have a list of books ahead of it, and in the end, I forget. T____T
One of my friends is Catholic, and her sister goes to Sunday school.... she told me that her sister brought home a flyer from sunday school asking parents to keep their children from watching the Golden Compass movie, because it was against the church.... is that true?
