| How many different Chinese languages are there? I know there are lots for Indian, and my friend speaks Manderine (not sure on spelling there). Amazing! you're sooo lucky that you can learn it! How do you learn it by yourself? | |

| I'd be interested in mandarin, because that is what most people take! (It's the national language) But, there are many chinese languages. Cantonese, Shanghainese, Fuzhou, and Hokkien-Taiwanese are widely used as well. There are many minority languages as well, but I cant remember them! >.< | |

| Wow! So can you understand them? *is curious* You know how in Japanese they say that some Japanese have a different dialect, is that the same with Chinese? That you'd still understand it even though it's called something else or ...? Cos i suppose the english have different dialect too. Like the slang words for different english speaking places. | |

| Well, I know very, very, very, very little Chinese. Basically, I can greet you, I can say goodbye, and I can count to ten. Oh, and I can also say the words for grapes, chocolate, and red. Well... I know a little more than that... but it gives you the idea. And most Chinese dialects are quite similar... I think . I'm not sure, but I think that they are basically the same. And with Japanese, and the dialect changes, I think that it is more like an accent. One place, Osaka, can be compared to the United States english, while Tokyo might be comparable to England's english. | |

| Yeah, but I was born and raised in america... and I'm half chinese, so it's not like my parents talk in it. Sometimes my Mom and her mom talk in chinese when it's a conversation that they dont want me to know.... | |

| There are lots of dialect in Philippines as well.
Tagalog[This is what most Filipino know], Ilokano, pangpangan, Cebuan etc.
There's a whole lot more in this site:
http://www.seasite.niu.edu/Tagalog/languages_and_dialects_in_the_ph.htm
Most of the dialects are different than Tagalog.
My mum can speak Tagalog, Pangpangan and English =] | |

| Yeah... We felt sort of bad for a little while, because my friend lied to us for a little while (she was joking) and said that she understood a little of what he said, and that he was talking about how he really needed to find a flowershop to buy roses for his sick daughter.... We all started being sad until she admitted she had no idea what he said, and she was just making up an explanation to sound smart! XD | |

| One of the teachers in my school gave their class a pop quiz! Except it wasn't what they were studying! They were really random questions too, like: What's the average wingspan of a flamingo? | |

| :O shame, shame, shame! I got back at my friend who tricked me though... I took a piece of paper, wrote gullible on it and tacked it to the ceiling... When she came into the room, I told her that gullible was written on the ceiling, but she wouldn't look up! When she finally did, she was all shocked! | |
